It is officially November which means it’s turkey season. But before I close the door on October, let me get into my favorite and worst beer during the halloween season, and explain why.
Before I get into my favorite beer during October lets get into the worst beer I cracked open and put into a glass. Coming in from Martin House Brewing Co. out of Fort Worth, Texas is from their pickle beer series; Best Maid Blue Raz Pickle Beer. I had high hopes for this, the can looked so fun, but I guess it’s true never judge a book by its cover. I’ve had bad beers but man this was bad. Now, I’m not saying all Martin House’s beers are bad but this beer was a drain pour. Aromas of artificial raspberry and boozy pickle juice was coming off the nose. I took my first drink and almost spit the beer out. Taste notes of grainy pickle juice and sugar like blue jolly ranchers. I’m sorry but no! This made me toss this beer and I normally never do that. I hope to try more beer from Martin House to make up for this experience.
Now without further a due the beer that truly blew me away went to Mystery Box 1.0 Smoothie Beer on tap from Celestial Brewing Co. out of Dallas, Texas. I recently took a trip around northern Texas and stopped in. I had two flights from them and all their beer was top tier but the one that blew me away was their take on a smoothie beer. Not overly thick or heavy on fruit this Fruited Sour was superb. I drank it and eventually went back for a full pour. After finishing my trip I couldn’t get that beer out of my mind. Picture a tart can of kerns strawberry juice with hints of mango and pineapple with an aftertaste of clean acidity. This beer was one for the memory bank. Dear Celestial please make it a year round beer.
