Each year Dallas Texas brewery Celestial Beerworks celebrates Ubemania, a day they say is their most purple day of the year. A festive day at their brewery with food, games, music and of course ube themed beers.

Before we continue let’s get into what ube is. They’re Purple yams. A starchy root vegetable that is native to Southeast Asia. They are often used in Filipino cuisine and can be found in many traditional dishes and modern desserts with a taste profile of the yam is really sweet with nutty and vanilla notes.

Today Celestial Beerworks celebrates this day with the release of 6 Ube themed beers on tap and to go. But mind you in order to have attended today you’d have to been following them on Social Media for all info which included buying tickets.

But let’s skip that and get into the real reason we are reading this and that is the beer. Here is all the info on all 6 beers.

#1 Dragonfruit Ube Tropic: This 5.2% bold, tart, slightly sweet, super juicy drink is one of our absolute favorites. Piled on top of our fresh base of Berliner Weisse is coconut, pineapple, ube, and tons of dragonfruit.

It’s the perfect combo of hard-candy-like sour flavor and fruit-pastry-like sweetness. The dragonfruit was the perfect match to the nutty, soft Ube and tropical Piña Colada beachy flavors. The aroma is packed with pineapple juice, coconut flakes and a bold berry juiciness. The finishing notes are tropical juice, red hard candies, Ube boba tea and dragonfruit refreshers.

#2 Matcha Tropic: This 5.2% thick, earthy, tart, slightly sweet matcha-forward drink is something out of smoothie dreams. Piled on top of our base of Berliner Weisse is coconut, pineapple, matcha, and a hint of white chocolate.

It’s ultra dense and has the most magnificent matcha nose.

It has notes of pineapple hard candy, iced matcha with oat milk, and coconut cream. The earthiness and grassy nature of matcha is the best combo with the Piña Colada beachy undertones. The white chocolate melds well with the coconut flakes and the finish is loaded with layers.

#3 Strawberry Ube Tropic: This 5.2% SWEET, creamy, strawberry, ube goodness is divine. Piled on top of our base of Berliner Weisse is coconut, pineapple, ube, and tons of strawberries!

It’s pillowy and dense and has the perfect amount of berry sweetness. It has a nose strawberry coconut ice cream and those strawberries and cream hard candies that have that red and white swirl. We are getting major flavors of beachy, tropical daiquiris and creamy vanilla filled ice pops. There are hints of nutmeg and sweetened condensed milk in the aroma, and the nutty, sweet ube melds perfectly with the added berries and the rich coconut on the finish.

#4 Tropic Blue: This 5.2% lightly tart, gently sweet, sea foam/ turquoise goodness is absolute heaven. Piled on top of our base of Berliner Weisse is coconut, pineapple, blue spirulina for color, and loads of different shades of blue candy.

It’s fluffy and soft and decadent and dessert-like. It has a nose of freshly grated coconut flakes and those hard marshmallows that you find in lucky cereals. We are getting flavors of pineapple dole whip, cotton candy soft serve, coconut cream, and the milk that’s left in the sugary fruit cereal bowl.

#5 Ube Tropic: This 5.2% lightly tart, gently sweet, violet goodness is absolute perfection and is a favorite for both the beer drinkers and non-beer-drinkers alike. Piled on top of our base of Berliner Weisse is coconut, pineapple and *of course* the lightly saccharine, softly nutty purple yam that is ube

It’s fluffy and milky and decadent. It has a nose of vanilla cookies and freshly grated coconut flakes. We are getting flavors of pineapple dole whip, macadamia nuts, vanilla soft serve, and heavy coconut cream. The finish has an almost milk-after-the-fruity-pebbles-are-gone taste… mixed with a tropical frozen beach drink.

#6 Piña Colada Tropic: Piña Colada Tropic (that we all pretty much just refer to as

“Tropic”) is the original Celestial “wacky” beer… maybe after our PB&J Space Jam! We’ve made it very sparingly since 2020… 2019(?) and it has the most special place in our hearts.

The OG Celestial cult members will remember this 5.2% milky, tart, tropical juice. Piled on top of our fresh base of Berliner Weisse is LOADS of coconut and pineapple.

It’s the most magical drink. It tastes like cracking a coconut open with your bare hands and drank its milk on the beach. It’s delicate and soft and has the most beautiful aroma of slushy piña colada. It has a pillowy, fluffy mouthfeel, has tropical layer after layer of flavor, and finishes with a taste that’s deliciously similar to the sweet milk that’s left in the bowl after eating frosted flakes… mixed with your oceanside cocktail.
