Introduction
Pastry beers whether it be pastry stouts or pastry sours these beers all have one thing in common they taste like dessert in a glass. Recently Dallas Texas locals Celestial beers got to brewing and releasing two dessert themed beers called Melties. Before we get into the beers and what they are about lets talk about pastry/dessert beers.
But what is a pastry/dessert beer?
These beers are beers that can consist of stouts whether Imperial or Barrel Aged to Sours like smoothie beers. But the style has no limits but these two styles typical are used to make these types of beers. Brewers will brew the beer style and add a ton of adjuncts like chocolate, coconut, pastry cream, and so on. It’s pretty much what the brewer is going for. You see pastry beers themed after famous candy bars to ice creams. Typically these beers are your regular stout or fruited sour but times 10.
The Beers!
Celestials two new beers are White Chocolate Meltie and Caramel Brownie Meltie. A bit about them; White Chocolate Meltie is a dessert themed sour loaded up with sweet, decadent, and creamy taste notes of coconut cream, vanilla beans, and white chocolate making it drink like a melted vanilla milkshake but don’t worry this doesn’t contain any lactose. And last but not least is their Caramel Brownie Meltie a Berliner Weisse based sour loaded with brownie batter, coconut cream, caramel, and chocolate ice cream which is dairy free.
Beers will were available at their Choco Mania event this past week and cans are still available in tap will supplies last. Should Celestial make this series a core? Let them know they want your feed back. Be sure to check out Celestial Beerworks while visiting Dallas.
